Cabbage Chutney - South Indian style from Pakashala Indian Kitchen

Andhra -South Indian style Cabbage Chutney
Indian cuisines essential and dish is Chutney,Ingredients may vary from region to region but the process is almost similar in all over India.Various vegetables,lentils can be used to make chutneys.you can do delicious chutney with cabbage and tomato in very simple way.this dish goes well with Hot plain rice,chapati or parantha 
 

Ingredients:
  • 250 gms cabbage(cut into small pieces)Shredded
  • 1 medium tomato cut into pieces 
  • 4 to 5 green chillies
  • 2 table spoons chana dal
  • 2 tea spoons urad dal
  • 1/4 th Tsp of Turmeric
  • 1/2 tea spoon jeera
  • 3 tsp fried de husked Ground nuts
  • 2-3 garlic pods 
  • 2-3 table spoons of the  thick de-seeded Tamarind juice tamarind 
  • salt to taste
  • 2 table spoons of Edible oil for frying 

For Seasoning/Tadka(Thalimpu/Popu in Telugu)


  • 2 to 3 garlic pods
  • few curry leaves for  Seasoning (thadka)
  • 3 table spoons any edible OIl
  • 2 to 3 red chilies
  • 1 tea spoon mustard (Rai/Avaalu in telugu)


Method


Heat a table spoon of oil in a pan. 
 Fry 2 table spoons chana dal, 2 tea spoons urad dal,1/4 th tsp of turmeric 1 tea spoon jeera,3 tsp of fried ground nuts and 2-3 garlic pods until they turn to golden color,
  Add green chillies and  2 red chillies and fry for few sec. and remove all the ingredients in to a bowl and let it cool. 
Add in the same pan  1 table spoon of oil and fry finely chopped cabbage and Chopped Tamatos and fry till the cabbage and tomoto becomes mushy and tender.
 Add tamarind and salt to it, close the lid and cook in a low flame until the cabbage is done. 
 Remove it into a bowl and let it cool.
Grind all the ingredients coarsely in a mixer adding garlic pods to paste,  add water only if necessary.
  Now heat a table spoon of oil in a pan.  Add mustard   1 red chilies and curry leaves. and garlic pods When mustard starts spluttering switch off the flame and add the thadka to the chutney and mix well.
Cabbage chutney (cabbage pachadi) is ready This is an Andhra Style of Cabbage chutney which tastes good with rice, rotis and chapatis and with hot plain rice .
